A horrific looking accident snarled traffic on Highway 240 Eastbound near the Blue Bridge-Columbia Drive interchange.

Around 2pm Friday, traffic began to seriously snarl coming off the Blue Bridge Southbound, and backing up Eastbound on 240 almost halfway back to the Edison Interchange.

We happened upon the scene shortly after the accident occurred.  We have no further details about any injuries, but we did see a woman sitting in the passenger seat of a passerby's car, feet on the ground, with a neck brace on. She was receiving assistance from that driver.  Two other men, possibly more, were wearing neon traffic vests, and were helping to direct traffic on the Eastbound side of the freeway.

They were obviously citizens who stopped and were doing a great job of helping until first responders got there. As we made our way by, we could see the rollers and hear the sirens off in the distance as Kennewick Fire units were coming from the direction of the Edison interchange.

We cannot presume what happened, but we would be surprised if there were  no injuries from this horrific looking accident. The dark vehicle looked like it was hit by an Abrams tank, the front passengers side was nearly completely destroyed.

We will update the situation with any future information.
