The driver of a 1955 Chevy Bel-Air is facing charges after trying to race and then crashing into pedestrians watching a classic car cruise in the Dalles, Oregon last weekend.

One person was critically injured and had to be airlifted to a local hospital after being stuck by the speeding car.

The driver of the 1955 Chevy, Ronald Madorin, is facing charges of assault in the second degree and is being held on $100,000 bail.

Witnesses say Madorin was stopped at a red light on the corner of East 2nd and Washington streets. When the light turned green, the 1955 Chevy lurched forward trying to race another car in the lane next to him and lost control.

The Chevy flipped, hit a parked car, hit multiple people watching the cruise, and then burst into flames.

All I saw coming was this ball of flames coming at me and everyone getting up and running and getting out of the way from it, said one witness to the local news.

The driver, Madorin, escaped with only minor injuries and released from Mid-Columbia Medical Center, according to reports.

If you witnessed the crash or have any information about this case, please contact the Dalles Police Department at 541-296-2613.
