The Government Flats fire near The Dalles has resulted in multiple evacuations of area residents, especially along rural roads.

About 140 members of the Oregon National Guard are assisting firefighters in their efforts to control this huge blaze, which is only about 15 percent contained.

The National Guard has brought in a Blackhawk and a Lakota chopper to assist in firefighting and evacuation efforts. A huge C-47 Chinook is being used to help drop water and fire retardant in hard-to-reach areas.

The Government Complex blaze has already torched about 8,000 acres. During the Douglas Complex Fire, Oregon National Guard aircraft and choppers dropped over half a million gallons of water on the blaze. Check out these remarkable pictures of the effort.
