Amazon is looking go build a new data center near Hermiston! The new site is proposed to be built between Westland Rd. and Cotttonwood Bend, but they need to get approval. The center will house servers for the popular online retailer and will bring construction jobs, and around 40 permanent jobs to the area. Housing may also see jump due to the new jobs being created. They'll need data techs, management positions and more.

But don't get too excited yet. The land need to be re-zone to approved to include light industrial building. Right now, the area is just zoned for farm work. The approval will need to come from the Umatilla County Board of Commissioners and there's a public hearing Thursday, March 23rd to discuss the proposal. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in the Justice Center Media Room, 4700 NW Pioneer Place in Pendleton.

What do you think? Is this a good area for the center, or should the land remain for farming only?
