Around 10am Monday, residents in Royal City in Grant County were asked to shelter in place due to an ammonia gas leak at the Royal Fruit Ridge Company processing plant.

Shelter in place means citizens within a one mile radius were asked to close all doors and windows, turn off all fans with external venting and if possible, seal windows with tape.  This being done after bringing pets and animals inside.

Officials say the gas leak occurred and dissipated, but the shelter in place order remains in case of another release.  Officials say it will likely be lifted once workers are able to pinpoint the source of the ammonia leak, and make sure it won't happen again.

More information is expected to be released soon.  No injuries were reported.
