Due to a request from the defense, the rape trial of a former Pasco police officer has been delayed until July 6th.

Richard Aguirre, former officer of the year in Pasco, is accused of raping a woman who spent the night at his West Pasco home in November 2014. This trial is not related to the Spokane murder case from 1986.

In that situation, Aguirre was reportedly linked by DNA to a Spokane prostitute who was found murdered that year. His defense attorney claims he was in Korea in the military and could not have committed that crime.

Meanwhile, the Pasco trial is delayed because the defense wants to interview what they say is a key expert in the DNA evidence. His attorney had also previously requested a change of venue for the rape trial, but it appears it will go forward in Franklin County.
