Every community debates how to address its homelessness problem. Downtown Pasco is slated to build a new and improved Union Gospel Mission. Meanwhile, Seattle and Portland are mulling building "tiny houses." What do you think?

The tiny house plan in Seattle is an answer to the city's tent problem. If people are going to live in empty lots anyway, why not give them 4 walls, a bathroom, a shower, a sink and a hot plate?

It's a simple and economical solution. Is it humane? Millions of young professionals envy the "tiny houses" showcased in magazines and on real estate reality shows. Low-income workers in Paris, Japan and Hong Kong have been living in tiny houses and tiny apartments for years.

I worry that they'll become TOO popular. Will millions of Americans live in tiny dwellings 50 years from now? And will we look back and call that progress?

For now, it seems an ingenious plan to address homelessness. For many of those people, desperation and lack of community is what keeps them from seeking the help they need.
