42-year-old Ubaldo Mungia of Mabton was shot Friday following a break-in at a home in the 600 block of East 3rd. Street.

Authorities say three men allegedly invaded the home, fired shots, and took money and several items from the victims. Responding police chased the suspects at speeds near 100 mph into Sunnyside where the chase ended near the intersection of Midvale and Green Valley Road. One suspect escaped and police arrested a 17-year-old boy.

Court records show Mungia reportedly attempted to escape. Because of his behavior, the officer attempting to apprehend him feared for his life and shot him. Mungia was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital. No update on his condition has been released.

The teenager is facing multiple charges,  records also show Mungia was arrested last year for assault, but the case was dismissed.
