Tuesday afternoon, Kennewick police responded to an unusual type of crash,  huge trailer loaded with gravel vs. an irrigation canal.

Authorities say the large landscape dump trailer loaded with decorating rock detatched itself from the truck pulling it, and ended up in the main canal near 52nd and Olympia streets.

Fortunately no injuries, but police say the trailer was not properly secured with safety chains, which could have potentially kept this from happening.  The say at the least, when the trailer became unhooked, the safety chains would have kept it from tumbling into the canal until the driver could stop the truck.

Police emphasize anyone hauling any kind of trailer needs to make sure at least two sturdy safety chains are utilized at all times.
