Body Found in Burning SUV Near Richland Identified

Benton County  Coroner John Hansens has identified the body found inside an SUV that was discovered on fire near South Richland Monday.

The vehicle was found beyond the end of Gage Boulevard in a rural area, but frequented by hikers, due to a number of dirt trails in the area.

The body was that of 55-year-old Carol Jean Haugen of Kennewick. Although Hansens says DNA and dental records may be required to establish a concrete ID, based upon the information obtained so far, they are confident it is her.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, at which time officials hope to
