Budget Cuts Force Early Closure of Mid-Columbia Recreation Areas
Don’t get any ideas about late-summer or early fall recreating at Charbonneau or Fishhook State Parks. They are now closed.Due to Federal budget cutbacks, recreational facilities at the two sites, which are overseen by the Army Corps of Engineers, have been closed for the season. Hood Park was also included in the cutbacks. The recreation season has been cut by up to 12 weeks in the Walla Walla District. Officials heard from numerous angry and bewildered campers and citizens who were surprised over the early closings.
The facilities will not re-open until next spring.
