Hurricane Irene Aftermath — At Least 44 Dead and Millions Without Power [VIDEO]
Cleanup efforts have begun in communities that were devastated by Hurricane Irene over the weekend. Although trucks and supplies from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are en route, access to some areas has been cut off by floodwaters that washed out or damaged roads and bridges.
“Irene was gonna land somewhere. We’re not Manhattan, our small streams quickly became big rivers,” Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin told The Brattleboro (Vt.) Reformer. “We’ve lost churches, homes and historic bridges. But we will rebuild.”
Weekend Box Office: ‘The Help’ Retains the Top Spot
In a weekend that saw many East Coast theaters closed because of Hurricane Irene, ‘The Help’ remained atop the box office for the second week in a row.
The film, based on the best-selling book of the same name, has now earned a total of $96.6 million.
What’s the Most Stolen Car on the Road Today?
New data from the Highway Loss Data Institute, which uses auto insurance claims to track the cars most likely to be stolen or broken into, says the most popular car with thieves is the Cadillac Escalade.
It’s the fourth year in a row the luxury SUV has topped the list, with about 10 of every 1,000 Escalades on the road falling victim to criminals. In a statement, Escalade maker GM said a number of theft-deterrent systems, such as sensors and better steering column locks, have been added to newer Escalades to combat the problem.

The communal offices that were introduced during the ’50s to boast creativity and problem solving are actually reducing productivity, according to new research.
Neuroscientist Dr. Jack Lewis conducted brain scans on office workers and found that those who work in spaces with few walls are plagued by intense bursts of distraction.
