A Kennewick resident was unharmed in a house fire that occurred Monday night.

Kennewick fire crews were called to 411 West First St. to find the home engulfed in flames that reached as high as 20 feet in the air.

Significant damage was done to the roof and back porch, the resident was able to call 911 and get out safely.   The Kennewick Fire Department was able to keep the blaze from spreading to a nearby home and Mount's Lock and Key business located next door.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  The homeowner credited her dog with alerting her to the smoke and flames, according to KNDU-TV.
