Saying it will create a "police state" and that it's too much like Arizona's immigration law,  Civil Rights groups and other special interests are moving to right Utah's new immigration law.

The new law forces residents to prove their citizenship if arrested for a felony or class A misdemeanor.  The National Immigration Law Center claims this law could lead to police requiring everyone they pull over to prove their immigration status.  (The NILC is a special interest group that has fought against virtually every attempt to reform immigration since it's inception 30 years ago--some of it's funding actually comes in part from the US Department of Justice).  Supporters of the new law claim it only applies to those who are arrested...not routine traffic stops, or police inquiries.  Utah officials say they were forced to pass this measure because of failure of the Federal Government to enforce existing immigration policies.
