According to the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission, another round of emphasis patrols in the Columbia Basin will focus on unbuckled drivers, but an additional emphasis has been added.

Law enforcement officials will be conducting the emphasis patrols from May 18 through 31st, including the Memorial Weekend.  A special emphasis will be placed on looking for drivers with improperly or unbuckled children.

According to Julie Furlong of the WSTSC, unrestrained or improperly restrained children in vehicles is the leading cause of death for unintentional death for that demographic  in the U.S.

The officials participating include Benton-Franklin Sheriffs, Richland, Pasco, Kennewick, West Richland Police, Washington State Patrol and other agencies.
