It's a holiday tradition in Coeur d'Alene that seems to get bigger and better every year. The annual light parade and lighting ceremony will take place the day after Thanksgiving beginning at 5 p.m.

The parade starts at the corner of 8th and Sherman in Coeur d'Alene, and then moves west on Sherman to Government Way.

Many of the businesses in the downtown area are planning to stay open later that night - until 8 p.m. or later.

This year's parade boasts 45 entries - the biggest number in the parade's 15-year history - and includes the Red Hot Mammas performing their Macy's Day Parade show.

After the parade, some 30,000 people are expected to arrive for the fireworks show and Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The fireworks show is made up of 1,500 shells and thousands of blasts.

This year's tree is a huge 161-foot grand fir on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene. To put the size of the tree in perspective, the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree in New York is approximately 75 feet tall, less than half the size of this giant.

The tree is decorated with 30,000 LED lights, which use 90 percent less energy than conventional light bulbs. In fact, the entire tree will use the same amount of power as just 21 average household bulbs.
