Dead Man Found in Yakima Canal Had Been Drinking

The Yakima County coroner says a man found dead along a canal apparently had been drinking, fell face first and drowned in about a foot of water in a ditch. The body of the 59-year-old homeless man was found yesterday by a woman on a walk in Yakima. KIMA reports police found alcohol at the scene.

Prison Inmate in Longview Tried to Hold Nurse Hostage

Cowlitz County Jail officials say an inmate attacked a nurse with a fork and briefly held her hostage in an attempt to escape while he was being treated at a Longview Hospital. The nurse suffered only minor scrapes. The inmate was subdued after a fight with a jail guard in which they struggled for his gun.

Portland Boy Survives Two-Story Fall Out Window

Portland Fire and Rescue says a 6-year-old boy fell out a second-story window early last night at a home in southeast Portland. KOIN reports the boy was conscious and breathing when emergency responders took him to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

Former Coach Sentenced in Oregon Abuse Case

A 38-year-old Aloha man who coached a girls softball team in Beaverton has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing a teenage girl. Jeremy Dickey pleaded guilty in Washington County Circuit Court to sex abuse and other charges. The Oregonian reports the victim was not a member of the team he coached. Dickey apologized in court.
