A 22-year-old man learned the hard way you don't eat and run without paying.

Saturday afternoon shortly before 1pm, Hayden Berges and a friend ordered some food and drink at the deli at the Red Apple Market at the corner of 10th and Washington in Kennewick.

They then attempted to leave without paying, but were detained by a store employee. Berges allegedly pushed the worker, Michael Nellis, to the ground, sat on him and was going to punch him when police arrived.

Berges was subdued and detained, he is in the Benton County jail on assault charges. His accomplice fled the scene and hasn't yet been caught.
