"Stay Thirsty, my friends..." for dodging tickets from the carpool lane?

Monday, a Washington State Trooper reported seeing the most creative and funny way anyone's ever tried to fake a passenger so they can use the HOV or carpool lanes on Interstate 5 near Tacoma.

It's not something we have over here, but in major metro areas, only certain lanes can be used by cars with more than one occupant.  They're usually less traveled, they're on the left, and they're a LOT faster!   But if you drive solo in these HOV lanes and an officer sees you, it's (in Washington state) a $124 ticket. HOV stands for "high occupancy vehicle."

Washington State Trooper Tony Brock pulled over an unnamed motorist who had a cardboard cutout of actor Jonathan Goldsmith, better known as the Most Interesting Man in the World as the pitchman for Dos Equis Beer!

The lifesize cutout was even buckled properly in the passenger seat!  Trooper Brock didn't take the cutout, but warned the driver not to use him again.  In the photo taken by Trooper Brock, you can clearly see the driver trying really hard not to laugh.

When asked about his passenger, the driver said, "he's my friend."

Trooper Brock and the WSP showed their sense of humor by sending out the following tweet on Twitter Monday about the incident:

"I don't always violate the HOV lane law ... but when I do, I get a $124 ticket."
