Richland police say the man may have fallen asleep, but now it's likely passed out from possible drug use.

Two people are in custody after a Monday crash in Richland that completely destroyed their vehicle, and could have cost lives had they hit someone.

18-year-old Nicole Samuels, and the driver, 22-year-old Ernesto Mendez-Leon were arrested, say Richland Police, on multiple drug, DUI and narcotics charges. Officers also found a considerable amount of drug related items were found in their car. They're facing a laundry list of possession, intent to deliver and other charges.

Essentially, their car was a pharmacy on wheels. Mendez-Leon apparently passed out behind the wheel and slammed into the tree. Richland police said on their Facebook page both occupants sustained significant injuries.

The investigation continues, and likely toxicology screens on both people.
