An Oregon man was was apparently intoxicated when hit by a car shortly before 8 p.m.Thursday on Highway 82 in LaGrande.

In one of the understatements of the year, Oregon State Patrol officers and LaGrande police said alcohol was "probably" the reason 48-year-old Richard Higgdon was standing in the eastbound lane of Highway 82 near Interstate 84.

He was hit by 41-year-old Teresa Bundy. She and an elderly passenger were not injured and no charges were pending against her after the accident. Higgdon was airlifted to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. Officers continue to investigate.
