E-Mail Scammers Lack Creativity – Believability [First In Series]

how to avoid computer scams - phishing

We’ve all seen them in our junk email, sometimes in our inbox.  Emails from people in the U.S. or overseas, claiming we have won a prize,  cash, or some other incredible offer.  But while some of these scammers or email “phishers” (as they are called) are pretty clever, some lack real creativity.

In the first of a several part series,  we have included some of these actual emails received here at Newstalk 870.    Email phishing has also taken on Olympic fever.    We got one the other day that had to do with the London games!

But while these are often hilarious,   remember - don’t click on attatchments,  don’t send them any information, and keep close track of exactly who you have business and financial dealings with via email and the net.   Experts say it’s a good idea to keep a log of every business, bank or credit union, insurance company etc. that you deal with online on a regular basis. That way, if you do get suspicious emails that have you thinking “hmmmm”,  you can compare it with your list and reinforce that it’s really phishing.   Phishing is the 21st. century buzzword for digital scamming done by criminals. You can click on the link in this article,  it’s to the Federal Trade Commission with security safety tips!

In the meantime, enjoy the first in our series of actual emails from phishers!
