When Granny’s in a hurry, get out of the way!

According to information released by the Oregon State Patrol and Milton-Freewater police, drugs and alcohol were not listed as  reasons why a 64-year-old woman led officers on a wild chase Monday.

Shortly before noon, OSP troopers received a report of a woman driving a 1996 Buick towards Milton-Freewater on Highway 11, passing vehicles in a no-passing zone at well over 100 mph!   A trooper later spotted the vehicle and clocked a speed of 89 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone.

Opal Theresa Long of Stanfield refused to pull over for the officer, but she was stopped by OSP troopers and Milton-Freewater police who blocked her in near SW Main and SW 7th. Ave after she entered the city.

Long was taken to the Umatilla County Jail on charges of Felony Eluding in a vehicle, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangerment of Another Person.

Police didn’t give any information as to why Long was driving in such a dangerous and erratic manner.  We’re guessing, maybe she was late for Bingo?

The investigation continues.
