What started as a traffic stop led to a brief standoff with police, after the suspect was even shot four times with a bean-bag gun in Kennewick.

Police say Thursday 40-year-old Charles Richardson was pulled over for running a stop sign near 7th and Morain.

He finally stopped his SUV in the parking lot of an apartment building at 3320 West 9th, but upon exiting, became "uncooperative and highly agitated,"  according to police.

Richardson escalated the argument, then at one point lifted his shirt to reveal a gun in his waistband. At that point he was shot four times with a bean bag gun, but didn't go down.  He ran into his apartment nearby, and barricaded himself. There was a woman and child inside.

Finally, after a short time, he threw out his gun and surrendered to police. He was arrested on a variety of counts, said police. No one was harmed in the incident.
