Education researchers believe the number of children in Washington state public schools who were homeless for at least a portion of the 2015-2016 school year was around 40,000.

Advocates are hoping to allocate $950,000 to programs to identify and then help these families.

It is well known children who are hungry don't learn well. One can only imagine what it's like for a child -- whether in Kindergarten or their senior year -- when they're not sure where home is.
