The FBI has joined the investigation of a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday morning on the Umatilla Indian Reservation, not far from Pendleton.

According to our news partner KNDU-TV, a man was fatally shot early Saturday, tribal police were called shortly before six am. They found two gunshot victims, one of them, a 27-year-old man, was airlifted to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, but he died. The other, who is a Confederated Tribal Member of the Umatilla reservation, suffered a serious gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to St Anthony's Medical Center in Pendleton.

Neither victim's names were released, with the 27-year-old victim it was due to the need to notify next-of-kin. The deceased man was not a tribal member.

Authorities have arrested 23-year-old Victor Contreras of California, one of several people taken into custody in connection with the incident. Authorities have not said why the FBI has joined in the investigation.

The shooting occurred on Willow Drive in Mission, OR, a small unincorporated area about a mile Northwest of the Wildhorse Resort and Casino near Pendleton.
