Fourth and Final WSU Faculty Assault Suspect in Custody

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — The fourth and final suspect in the beating of a Washington State University instructor is in custody. Pullman police say 22-year-old Robert D. Bean turned himself in at the Whitman County sheriff's office at 9:20 a.m. Friday and was booked into jail for investigation of assault. Another man turned himself in early Friday to Pullman police and another man and a woman were arrested earlier in the week.

Family Escapes Fire from Ruptured Gas Line in Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A sewer contractor ruptured a natural gas line, causing a fire that spread to a house in Spokane. The family safely escaped. Firefighters evacuated neighbors Friday morning and contained the fire to the back of the house while it burned itself out. Battalion Chief Steve Sabo told The Spokesman-Review water and sewer lines had been located but there were no marks on the ground for the natural gas line.

Pendleton Hotel Known for Crime Being Shut Down by Authorities

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — Umatilla County officials have taken a step toward closing what they describe as a crime-ridden motel and apartment complex off Interstate 84 just west of Pendleton. The East Oregonian reports that deputies slapped declarations on the Rodeo City Inn that say "Notice_Crime Property." That's allowed if certain crimes happen more often than three times in 90 days. If the owners and county commissioners can't agree on abating problems at the motel, the county could ask a court to shutter it.

Eugene Man Who Fired Gun in Walmart Parking Lot Reportedly on Drugs

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Police say man who fired shots at the lights in a parking lot of a north Eugene Walmart store may have been high on methamphetamine and suffering from an unspecified mental condition. The Eugene Register-Guard reports the 31-year-old man, Joshua Damon Abdon, was arrested Thursday night and booked on weapons and meth possession charges, among others. Police say he fired several shots at streetlights behind the store and then fled into the woods.
