The Benton County Sheriff's Office and Finley School District Officials continue to investigate an allegation that a teacher threw a hand-held bell at a student in class.

School officials did not name the teacher, and offered few details, but said the Finley Middle School teacher was on paid administrative leave.

The student said her 2nd period teacher threw a "hand held bell" at her when she was talking and being disruptive in class.

Superintendent Lance Hahn said they've never had an incident like this happen and they take every situation seriously.  Once the Sheriff's office completes their investigation they will forward their findings to the Benton County Prosecutor for any action that may be warranted by the incident.

The school did not say when the incident took place.

Officials did not say the exact size or weight of the bell, or if the student was actually hit.
