Every July 4th holiday, neighborhoods across the Mid-Columbia are subject to the snap-crackle-BANG! of fireworks.  But are they legal?

Here's what you need to know about the 4th., what you can fire off, and where it's legal.

  • Franklin County - you're better off going to the River of Fire Festival, because fireworks are illegal in every square inch of the county.  Forget it.
  • Fireworks are legal in Benton County, but NOT within the city limits of Kennewick. AND, in the county, only legal approved fireworks sold in licensed stands.  This doesn't include the boomers sold on Indian reservations.
  • What's illegal? Fireworks such as Black Cats, Ladyfingers or any other exploding firecracker are illegal to sell in Washington state. Same goes for roman candles, bottle rockets, missiles or any other type that leaves the ground and explodes in the air.

We know a lot of your neighbors might be getting away with illegals, but sooner or later it will catch up with them. And, nobody wants to be the goob who is responsible for setting off a brush fire that consumes acres and hurts people.

Be smart, follow the rules and be a good sport this 4th of July!
