An alleged  dispute led to a  shooting near Enterprise, Oregon, late Sunday.

Oregon State Patrol officers are investigating the shooting of a 53-year-old LaGrande, Oregon resident.

Sunday evening, Wallowa County deputies responded to a report of Randy E. Dickenson having been shot by 47-year-old Daniel Kent Courtney.

The shooting occurred at a residence between Enterprise and Joseph around 8:12 p.m. Courtney surrendered to a SWAT team and was taken into custody. Because he was a former deputy with the Wallowa County Sheriff's office,  the Oregon State Patrol will conduct the investigation.

Dickensen was taken to an area hospital, then flown to Boise where he remains in critical condition. Authorities did not say what the dispute was that led to the shooting.

Courtney is facing 2nd Degree Assault charges.
