Following the shocking announcement that Ted Cruz was suspending his campaign for President, the third "guy", John Kasich, announced via Twitter that he too, was dropping out.

According to multiple sources, word began to filter out early Wednesday that Kasich, the stubborn Gov. of Ohio, was finally ending his campaign.

According to sources, Kasich cancelled and event in order to make a statement Wednesday night in Ohio, his home state. With Cruz dropping out, Kasich was the last man standing against Donald Trump.

Trailing noticeably behind the two front-runners, it probably became clear he had no chance to even get a whiff at the nomination. Some critics said Kasich was hoping Cruz would hang in, and keep the three-way race going, so he could perhaps call for a contested GOP convention. That would lead to possible re-votes, and somehow allow him to grab the nomination. Others painted him as the 'establishment' GOP favorite, but Kasich never really gained much traction outside of the Midwest.

Kasich in fact, had publicly stated he was shooting for an open convention, and just such a vote. But with the leaving of Cruz, it's possible Kasich finally saw the writing on the wall after Trump took a sweep of all the delegates in Indiana's primary.

There's no word as to whether Kasich will throw all his support behind Trump.
