Gregoire To Support Same Sex Marriage In Washington

Wednesday Gov. Chris Gregoire is expected to announce at a press conference her support for a bill allowing same-sex marriage in Washington State.

While Gregoire is expected to suppor the bill,  exactly what her plan and thoughts are is not yet clear.   Senator Ed Murray of Seattle put together the bill, and Gregoire has invited supporters of the same-sex plan to the capitol for a meeting and press conference.  If the bill passes the Washington Legislature, which reconvenes next week,  it would overturn the Washington State Supreme Court's ruling that upheld the Defense of Marriage act that defined marriage as a union between opposite sex couples.   Opponents say the only reason Gregoire is supporting the bill is because she is not seeking re-election.  The measure is sure to set off a spirited debate in the Legislature.
