A 21-year-old woman from Pasco is in custody after a hit-and-run accident Tuesday evening in Kennewick.

Police report the incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. at Fruitland and Kennewick avenues.

A Nissan driven by 76-year-old Sophia Flores was passing through the intersection on the green light when it was hit by a Volkswagen driven by the suspect, Brittney Jo Morris Neiss.

The force of the impact was enough to knock Flores' car on its side. She was taken to the Kennewick General Hospital, treated and released. Sgt. Ken Lattin of the KPD said Morris-Neiss fled the scene on foot, but was later arrested because witnesses recognized her. When found, she had dyed her hair pink. Her probable reason for leaving the scene was her being wanted for outstanding warrants. She has also been charged with causing a hit-and-run accident with injuries.
