While there are still some unanswered questions as to how a woman arrested for her part in an under-age prostitution scheme ended up in a motivational presentation at Kiona-Benton High School,  one of the biggest issues is a lack of honesty by that participant.

February 17th, a group known as "Make Your Mark" delivered a motivational presentation to students at the school during an assembly. Turns out, one of the performers and speakers named Mia Rose was actually Melissa Marie Salsbury, who was arrested in 2011 for being the "organizer" of an on-line prostitution ring in the Tri-Cities.

Salisbury, who was 19 at the time, was convicted of forcing underage women into prostitution and making money from her online sex business. The Tri-City-based ring was discovered when a 17-year-old female student told her school resource officer she was one of the victims and was under what was called in court papers "emotional duress."  Salsbury was convicted of Felony Promoting Sexual Abuse of a Minor. She was one of six people charged in connection with the "business," participants or clients.

As such, she was required to register as a Level One Sex offender, is not allowed any contact with minors, or allowed on any school grounds without permission. She is still under Department of Corrections supervision, meaning she has to regularly report activities, job and home changes, and other information to the Department.

Ki-Be Principal Clay Henry, in a letter sent to all District parents, explained the group had been booked for the presentation by way of a former Ki-Be Alumni who is now in the music business.  He wanted to give back to the community by having some of the artists on his label speak on a variety of topics to the students, including the importance of graduating, bullying and harassment, and never giving up on a goal.

Henry, who was not present due to an education forum in Yakima with Rep. Dan Newhouse, was informed by local law enforcement officers that 'Mia Rose' was actually Salsbury, and a convicted sex offender.  Henry said he had no prior knowledge of her backround, or her real name.

Salsbury, who spent a year in jail over the prostitution, said she had been doing modeling under the Mia Rose surname. One of her fellow motivational speakers said Salsbury had turned herself into authorities. She is expected to be charged for illegally crossing state lines without Department of Corrections permission to work with the group in Umatilla, a federal crime. She is also expected to be charged with breaking other DOC sex offender restrictions.

It is not yet known if the Make Your Mark group, or the former Ki-Be alum knew her real identity, but it's clear she was not forthright and honest about her backround, which many say led to the incident.
