When an employee takes a sick day, there is always going to be some suspicion about how he or she really is. This goes double if the “must have been something I ate” excuse comes on a Monday or a Friday.

But, according to anonymous survey of 5,000 workers by the career website theFIT, 84 percent were actually sick or taking care of a sick child when they last took a sick day.

The survey also found men are slightly more likely than woman to fake being ill to get a day off.

And why do people take illicit sick days? The answers most cited were because they needed a mental health day, were interviewing for another job, were hangover or were just playing hooky.
