The Colockum Tarps Fire is the largest burning in Washington state -- larger than the city of Tacoma. Also called the Colockum Pass wildfire, it has now burned 66 square miles and has shifted south. State officials said the fire, as of late Monday, was about eight miles from the large Wild Horse Wind Farm in Kittitas County.

Evacuations are underway for people in the area; fire crews are hoping to stop the fire on a ridge just north of the wind farm. Most of the fire has burned sagebrush and flatlands. Crews have been able to keep it away from forest lands just to the west of the blaze. At least 300 firefighters are working to stop it.
