In defense of hurricane forecasters,  it's best to prepare for the worst. But for the rest of the media, they are looking rather silly after Hurricane Irene turned out to be more of a whimper than a whammy.

After evacuations trumpeted by politicians as looking out for citizens, and Obama attempting to deflect his lengthy vacation in Martha's Vineyard by 'taking control'  in a hurricane command center, Irene ended up watering everyone's lawns.  By noon Sunday, sunshine was breaking over New York, and after some initial high winds, and heavy rainfall, Irene whithered. Irene turned out to be the, as the British Press stated, the apocolypse that never was.
