Police say the source of the blaze is likely post-4th fireworks offenders.

Never mind that fireworks are illegal inside the city limits of Kennewick, that apparently didn't stop people from setting them off from the irrigation dike near the 600 block of South Dayton on the 4th of July.

The adjacent homeowner said they saw some people shooting them off 4th of July night, then Tuesday around 10am, they called police about a suspicious fire. The occupant said they noticed their fence on fire after hearing strange, loud popping sounds.

Police say it was likely fireworks related. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Kennewick Police Department.

Illegal fireworks calls flooded the department on the 4th, in fact we called to report a spray of mortar shots at the end of our block. A group of youngsters drove up, parked by the curb, set up their arsenal, then in about 2-3 minutes, fired them off. They then jumped in their car and fled.  The police dispatcher used the term 'thousands' when describing the number of calls they got about people firing off illegals and creating a nuisance.

We LOVE fireworks ourselves, but since they are illegal, how about following the rules? Especially since this year, July 4 was on a Monday, and people who have to work Tuesday don't appreciate drunks firing off mortar shots at 1am!
