Much to the chagrin of some legislators in Olympia, the latest Tim Eyman initiative is still passing by a healthy margin.

I-1366 is the latest tug in the back and forth war between Eyman, citizens, and legislators. The initiative would lower sales taxes, unless the legislature approves a Constitutional Amendment reinstating the two-thirds majority required to pass tax increases.

Unlike previous efforts, an amendment to the State Constitution would force the legislature to pass any tax increases by a margin of at least 66 percent. If the legislature fails to pass this measure, the state sales tax will drop from 6.5% to 5.5.

The latest results show I-1366 still passing by a margin of 53% in favor. Because all of our state is mail in ballot, votes will continue to be counted for several weeks.
