Oregon authorities looking over a crash site on Westland Road but still have not released name of deceased driver.

Wednesday afternoon, a semi-truck full of onions driven by 37-year-old Rafael Muniz Sanchez was headed North on Westland Road not far from town when it was hit head-on by a 2007 Nissan Altima driven by a woman. She was attempting to pass another vehicle in the opposite direction.

The collision sent both vehicles into a nearby field, and both caught fire. Sanchez was able to escape his Freightliner with minor injuries. The driver of the Altima was pronounced dead at the scene. The fire was extinguished by the Hermiston Fire and Emergency Services teams, and the Umatilla County Road department.

The deceased driver has been tentatively identified, but the name has not been released pending verification.
