It’s So Dry Washington’s Rain Forest Is on Fire!

Over 600 acres of the Olympic Peninsula (home of the Hoh Rain Forest) are on fire near Port Angeles. It's the worst fire on the peninsula since 1951 when the Great Forks Fire burned 30,000 acres (yes, it's THAT Forks).

The region has been in the news lately because of efforts to reintroduce salmon to the Elwha RIver.

The peninsula's fire is not the only one in Washington state this week, but it is the strangest. With no snow pack, the dead leaves, needles, trees and other debris are dry and easy to catch fire.

Experts assessing the fire say the worst is yet to come when the East Side, which is dryer and hotter, sees its first fires.
