The bids are in, and it's not going to be cheap to remove the huge Japanese tsunami dock that washed ashore recently hear Newport OR.

Bids from various companies to tear apart and haul off the 66  by 19 foot dock  range from close to $80,000 to as high as $240,000!   Towing the dock off the beach and into the Newport inlet would cost over $175,000, according to bids.  Oregon officials are weighing options carefully, because the state will have to pay the cost.

Some have suggested the dock be left as a tourist attraction, because it has already drawn hundreds if not thousands of visitors, but the state says it has to go.  The dock was stripped of hundreds of pounds of potentially harmful organic material it has accumulated while anchored in Japan.  It was then swept out to sea last March as part of the tsunami.
