Jamaal Charles scored three touchdowns, and the Chiefs thoroughly dominated the New England Patriots, 41-14, in Kansas City on Monday night. The Chiefs intercepted Tom Brady twice and collected three turnovers in the rout.

Charles finished with 92 rushing yards after missing last week's win at Miami. He spearheaded the Kansas City (2-2) march to a 17-0 halftime lead. New England (2-2) finally got on the scoreboard when Brady connected with Brandon LaFell on a 44-yard scoring pass with 3:26 left in the third quarter to cut KC's lead to 27-7.

Alex Smith threw for 248 yards and three scores for the Chiefs. Knile Davis led Kansas City with 107 rushing yards on 16 carries.

Brady, who was replaced by rookie QB Jimmy Garoppolo in the fourth quarter, completed 14 of 23 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown. The Chiefs out-gained the Patriots 443-290 during the game.

The beatdown brought to light some issues New England is dealing with.  In the offseason, they lost their best offensive lineman, Logan Mankins (a perennial All-Pro) who was traded away;   Alik Talib, the Patriots version of Richard Sherman signed with Denver;   and their best threat out of the backfield - Danny Woodhead - signed with the Chargers.  He had 1200 rushing and receiving yards and 12 TD's last year.  Plus, their offensive line coach retired after last season.    Throw in the loss of TE Adrian Hernandez, and a less than 100% Rob Gronkowski, and the Pats are missing their big guns.

This has left the Patriots with only one threat - receiver Julius Edelman - and as one NFL expert said of the Pats:  "now, when they need a big play, they got nobody."
