Kayla Harrison Claims USA’s First Gold in Judo
USA’s very own Kayla Harrison won the first ever gold medal in judo this morning! Harrison beat the crowd favorite Gemma Gibbons of Great Britain by winning 3 out of 4 matches. Judo has been an olympic sport since 1992. The only medal USA has won in the sport is a bronze, awarded to Ronda Rousey in 2008. Six years ago, sexual assault launched her into the world of judo & she hasn’t turned back. She trains in suburban Boston and before the Olympic Games, was ranked number 4 in the world.
Congrats Kayla! The American judo drought is finally over!
