If you're looking to get in some last-minute swimming before school, you might try elsewhere.

Due to what officials say is too much going on, the Kenneth Serier Memorial Pool in downtown Kennewick will shutter its doors for 2013 a week early.

City officials said parking and congestion from buses and other Benton Franklin Fair activities make it more difficult for people using the pool to find parking. But the biggest reason is a significant downturn in attendance.

Officials said it doesn't make any sense to pay lifeguards and other workers to do nothing. City officials said that's not unexpected, but this year they decided to save expenses by closing it early.

The splash park next to the city pool will remain open through Labor Day, possibly later if the weather stays warm.

Richland and Pasco city pools will remain open regular hours until this coming Sunday, Aug. 25.
