Two officers have returned to duty after an investigation showed they acted with proper force.

The shooting review board, made up of officers from various Tri-City jurisdictions, found that Kennewick Officers Santoy and Kuhn acted properly when dealing with a suspect.

Back on June 27th,  32-year-old Aaron Wright led officers on a chase throughout Kennewick in a stolen car.  Wright's activities actually began earlier in the morning, with several attempted robberies.    Police caught up with him at a duplex near Klamath Ave. and Volland St before 8am.  He entered the building, then came back out and pointed a gun at the officers.   Kun and Santoy fired a total of 8 rounds, 3 from handguns and 5 from rifles, at Wright, who died from a bullet wound to the head.

The gun turned out to be a BB gun, but was an exact replica of a Baretta pistol.   According to a release from the Shooting Review Board:

"...the Kennewick Police Firearms Review Board convened and determined that when weighing the totality of the circumstances, Officers Kuhn and Santoy reacted to an imminent threat due to the aggressive actions of Aaron Wright. In the face of these aggressive actions, the lethal force used by Officers Kuhn and Santoy was reasonable under the circumstances to protect life."

Wright had an extensive criminal history,  dating back to 1995 when he was 13 years old.  He was believed to be tied to several overnight and early morning robberies, including theft of license plates from vehicles.

The two officers will return to regular duty, they were on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
