Kennewick police are reaching out to the public, as they are still trying to identify the vehicle that struck and injured a cyclist October 4th.

The male cyclist was riding westbound near the intersection of Clearwater and Huntington Streets shortly after midnight. The rider had proper lighting, safety clothes and was observing the law as required for bike travel on the street.

He was struck, then sideswiped by a vehicle, wrecking his bike and causing him minor injuries. However, the bike was the only form of transportation for the man. Fortunately, his bike was repaired at a local bike shop utilizing the Kennewick Police Community Care Fund.

But due to darkness and lack of lighting where the accident occurred, police are still trying to identify the vehicle. Video evidence showing the collision was collected from the surveillance cameras of nearby businesses, but darkness had made identifying the vehicle very difficult.

They are asking anyone who might have information about the accident to come forward, and are asking area body and repair shops to see if they've had a white vehicle come in since October 4th. Here's what they do know:

  • The vehicle is a white sedan, possibly an Accura, with tinted windows.
  • The vehicle had large taillights
  • The damage to the vehicle would be on the front bumper, and passenger side fender, consistent with hitting a bike, then dragging it partway down the side of the car.
  • The damage might have included paint from the bike and rubber smears and pieces from the tires of the bike.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers at (509)-586-TIPS. All information is considered confidential, and can be reported anonymously.
