It took hours, but Kennewick police, fire, Benton County Sheriffs and other crisis intervention officials were able to prevent a man who was holding a knife to his own throat from committing harm to himself.

Wednesday afternoon around 2pm at the Circle K at 10th and Washington Streets, police were called about a man having an 'episode' as officials said.  The man was parked at the pumps, holding the knife to his throat.

It took officers a number of hours of officers 'working through challenges' but they were able to safely resolve the incident. The man was medically examined to make sure he was OK before being referred to an emergency treatment facility with Crisis Response to get help.
