Wednesday afternoon, Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin, who has been helping coordinate the investigation into the Antonio Zambrano-Montes shooting, release additional details.

Zambrano-Montes, who died February 10th after an altercation with Pasco police, was fatally shot by police near 10th and Lewis.  From the official SIU investigation, here is latest information:

"....The arriving officers attempted to stop the actions of Antonio Zambrano-Montes. Antonio Zambrano-Montes then turned his attention from passing motorists toward the police officers and began throwing rocks at them. Officers made attempts to control the situation with the use of taser deployments but Antonio Zambrano-Montes continued to throw rocks at the officers.

Ultimately, officers fired their handguns a total of 17 times. 5 to 6 of those rounds struck Antonio Zambrano-Montes. The final medical examiner’s report is not yet complete. The final analysis by the medical examiner is expected to be completed in the next 4-weeks. At this time we know Antonio Zambrano-Montes was not shot in the back.

Looking forward, the transcription of witness statements and the toxicology report from the State Crime Lab will take several weeks.

This will be the final media briefing from SIU.  Further media briefings will come from the Franklin County Prosecutor, City of Pasco, and/or the Franklin County Coroner."

According to last week's briefing, another one was expected Thursday February 26th, but we await further confirmation.
