Lunar Eclipse Tonight over Tri-Cities, Some Call it The Blood Moon

If you want to stay up late, watch it!

Starting around 11pm tonight, you still start to see the moon “disappear.”   The total lunar eclipse occurs only when the moon passes entirely through the shadow of the earth.  It completely blocks sunlight from reaching the planet.

A few minutes after midnight, the moon will be completely “gone,” then will stay that way for about and hour and half.  Then, by about 1:25-1:30 it will start to reappear.

With clear skies expected, this would be worth staying up for.  It is sometimes referred to as the Blood Moon because during it’s darkness, sunsets from earth are projected onto it.  That accounts for the reddish color.

Ancient civilizations feared it because of the strange color.
